Event 1005 occurs on a Windows Server 2008-based computer that is running Server for NFS when there is an unmapped user in the advanced mapping list

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a Windows Server 2008-based computer that is running Server for Network File System (NFS).
  • You configure the Server for NFS component to use a User Name Mapping (UNM) server that runs on a Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer.
  • There is an unmapped user in the advanced mapping list.
In this scenario, when you start the NFS service, the following error is logged in the event log:

Log Name: System
Source: NfsServer
Date: Date & Time
Event ID: 1005
Task Category: None
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer: Computer Name
Description: Server for NFS could not obtain mapping information from User Name Mapping. Server for NFS will make another attempt after 30 minutes.

Note This problem does not occur when the Server for NFS component is running on a Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, the computer must run Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server Core. Also, the computer must have Microsoft Services for Network File System installed.

Restart requirement

You have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

Hotfix replacement information

This hotfix does not replace any other previously released hotfixes.

Registry information

To use this hotfix, you do not have to make any changes to the registry.

File information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.

Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server Core file information note

The MANIFEST files (.manifest) and MUM files (.mum) installed for each environment are listed separately . MUM and MANIFEST files, and the associated security catalog (.cat) files, are critical to maintaining the state of the updated component. The security catalog files (attributes not listed) are signed with a Microsoft digital signature.
