How to use the Microsoft FRx Data Folder Migration Wizard

This article discusses how to use the Data Folder Migration Wizard for Microsoft FRx. Microsoft FRx Service Pack 9 supports the Windows Vista operating system. This operating system requires Microsoft FRx system files to be located outside protected folders such as Program Files. The Data Folder Migration Wizard is a new utility provided with Service Pack 9 to make the movement of FRx data folders from protected folders to new directories easier.

Things to know about the Data Folder Migration Wizard

  • When you install a service pack, the Data Folder Migration Wizard starts automatically if one or more FRx data folders are located in protected folders.
  • If the FRx data folders are not located in protected folders, the wizard exits and the service pack installation is completed.
  • The Data Folder Migration Wizard can be started within the FRx Designer.
    • On the Admin menu, click Move Data Folders to start the Data Migration Wizard.
    • The wizard closes the FRx Designer as it starts.
  • The Data Folder Migration can be run independently of other processes.In Windows Explorer, locate the folder that contains the wizard application, double-click FRxSoftware.FRx.DataMigrationWizard.exe.
  • When you run the Data Folder Migration Wizard, the tasks on each screen must be completed in the sequence in which they are presented.

Using the Data Folder Migration Wizard

  1. The Getting Started page identifies the location of the FRx installation to be changed.
  2. Select the folder that contains the FRx32.exe file.
  3. Click Next.

Select Folders

  1. The Select Folders page lists the kinds of Microsoft FRx data folders and provides for the selection of the folders to be relocated. The folders that you select on this page directly affect which of the remaining pages are available during this Data Folder Migration Wizard session.
  2. Select the folders to be relocated. Folders that are located in protected locations, such as Program files, must be moved and are selected for you.
  3. On the Select Folders page, select the check box for each folder type that you want to relocate.
    Note If a data folder is currently in an unsupported location, it cannot be unselected.
  4. 4.Click Next.

Select SysData

  1. The Select SysData page lets you specify the new location of the SysData folder. This page is visible if the Shared system data folder (SysData) option on the Select Folders page was selected.
  2. Type a location in the New location field. The path must end with SysData.
    Note4.If location path does not end with SysData the following message will display:
    The location must end with "SysData." The location has been updated to: D:\test\SysData
    You can click OK on the message and the program will automatically enter SysData at the end of the path.
  3. Click Next and you will receive the following message:
    The path you entered does not exist. Do you want to create it?
  4. Click Yes.

Spec Set Screen


The Specification Sets page allows for relocation of the specification sets into the SysData folder. This page is visible if any of the specifications sets are currently located in a folder other than the SysData folder. This lists only those specification sets that are outside the SysData folder.

When you select to relocate the specification sets, the wizard copies the specification sets to the new location of the SysData folder (or the current location if you are not relocating it during this session).

To relocate specification sets into the SysData folder, follow these steps:
  1. On the Specification Sets page, select Move the listed specification sets to the new SysData folder .
  2. Click Next.

Select IO_Data


The Select IO_Data page lets you specify the new location of the IO_Data folder. This page is visible if the IO_Data on the Select Folders page was selected. The wizard does not let you select a location inside a protected folder such as Program Files.
  1. Select a copy option.
    • Select Copy all files and folders to copy all demonstration data and generated reports to the new location.
    • Select Copy only demo data files and folders to copy only the demonstration data to the new location.
  2. Type a location in the New location field.
  3. Click Next and you will receive the following message:
    The path you entered does not exist. Do you want to create it?
  4. Click Yes.

Company Folders


The Company Folders page lets you specify a new location for one or more of the existing company folders. This page is visible if the Company Folders on the Select Folders page was selected. The Company Folders page contains a table of all known Microsoft FRx companies for this installation.

You can change any of the values in the Import and Export Folder column, if you need to. If you make any changes, you must click Refresh.

Complete Wizard


The Complete Wizard page summarizes the changes during the Data Folder Migration Wizard session. The Microsoft FRx configuration will remain unchanged until you click Finish.
