More information

An NCR is a common markup construct that is used in Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) and in other SGML-based markup languages, such as HTML and XML. An NCR consists of a short sequence of characters that represent a single character from the Unicode Universal Character Set (UCS). NCRs are typically used to represent characters that cannot be directly encoded in a particular document. When a markup-aware reader interprets the document, each NCR is treated as if the NCR were the character that the NCR represents.
