Error message when you change a tree in Microsoft Forecaster: "VB Script Error 50000 Save Failed. Processing Failed and the response is not well-formed XML.”


Error message description

When you make a change to the tree in Microsoft Forecaster, you receive the following error message:
"VBScript Error 50000 Save Failed. Processing Failed and the response is not well-formed XML. Invalid at the Top level of the document. Use the ResponseXML Property to obtain the Response."

Cause

This problem occurs because of a problem in the Vbscript.dll component on the user's workstation.

Note The VBscript.dll file is located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, follow the steps for Solution A. If Solution A fails, follow the steps for Solution B.

Solution A

Replace the Vbscript.dll on the workstation. To have us fix this problem for you, go to the "Fix it for me" section. If you’d rather fix this problem yourself, go to the "Let me fix it myself" section.

Fix it for me

To fix this problem automatically, click the Fix this problem link. Then click Run in the File Download dialog box, and follow the steps in this wizard.



Note This wizard may be in English only; however, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows.

Note If you are not on the computer that has the problem, you can save the automatic fix to a flash drive or a CD so that you can run it on the computer that has the problem.

Let me fix it myself

To replace the Vbscript.dll, follow these steps:
  1. Log on to the workstation as an Administrator.
  2. Locate the VBscript.dll file in the C:\Windows\System32 folder.
  3. Register the DLL by using C:\Windows\System32\REGSVR32:
    1. On the workstation, click Start, and then click Run.
    2. Type REGSVR32 C:\Windows\System32\VBscript.dll, and then click OK.
  4. Restart the workstation.

Did this fix the problem?

Check whether the problem is fixed. If the problem is fixed, you are finished with this article. If the problem is not fixed, you can contact support.

Solution B

If Solution A fails, follow these steps:
  1. On the workstation desktop, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the General tab, and then note the operating system version and the service pack information.
  3. Locate another computer that has the same operating system version and service pack level.
  4. Copy the C:\Windows\System32\Vbscript.dll file from the second computer to a temporary location.
  5. On the nonworking computer, close all applications.
  6. In the C:\Windows\System32 folder, locate the Vbscript.dll file.
  7. Unregister the VBscript.dll file by using C:\Windows\System32\REGSVR32:
    1. On the workstation, click Start, and then click Run.
    2. Type REGSVR32 -u C:\Windows\System32\VBscript.dll.
    3. Click OK.
    4. Right-click C:\Windows\System32\VBscript.dll, and then rename it C:\Windows\System32\VBscript.dll.bak.
    5. Copy the VBscript.dll file from the temporary location to C:\Windows\System32 on the workstation where this problem occurs.
    6. Register the DLL by using C:\Windows\System32\REGSVR32:
      1. On the workstation, click Start, and then click Run.
      2. Type REGSVR32 C:\Windows\System32\VBscript.dll, and then click OK.
    7. Restart the workstation.
