The "Restrict Internet communication" entry of the Internet Communication Management node is not consistently correct in Windows Server 2008

In the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC) Group Policy reporting page on a Windows Server 2008-based computer, the "Restrict Internet communication" entry of the Internet Communication Management node is not consistently correct.

To resolve this problem, administrators can manually delete the "Restrict Internet communication" entry from the GPMC report to minimize confusion.

To do this, modify the ICM.admx file by deleting the session content that is between the following entries:

• <policy name="InternetManagement_RestrictCommunication_1
• <policy name="InternetManagement_RestrictCommunication_2

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

This problem is caused by a limitation in the "Restrict Internet communication" entry in the ICM.admx file. This entry is located under the following heading: The limitation causes the "Restrict Internet communication" entry to display inconsistently reported values if one of the subsettings for the entry has changed. This inconsistency occurs because the "Restrict Internet communication" entry does not correspond to one specific client setting. Instead, the entry corresponds to a group of client settings.

In other words, the parent "Restrict Internet communication" entry might not correspond to the value in the GPEdit.msc console even though the actual Group Policy behavior of its 14 subsettings is reported correctly.

Unless you choose to follow the suggested steps in the "Resolution" section, we recommend that you ignore the "Restrict Internet communication" entry in the GPMC report until an updated ICM.admx file is available.
