Message box text may not wrap, and you cannot see some text on Windows Server 2008-based and Windows Vista SP1-based systems that have a small display area

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You are running an application in Windows Server 2008 or in Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1).
  • The screen size is small. For example, to run this application, assume that you have connected by using a remote desktop connection to a Windows Server 2008 terminal server from a handheld device. In this case, the screen resolution of the terminal server session is 240 X 320.
In this scenario, message box text that is displayed by the application does not wrap as expected. You cannot see some contents of the message box because they are out of the screen range.

Cause

Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista SP1 systems define a fixed initial width for the message boxes to be consistent with other dialog boxes. However, these systems do not check whether the initial width is wider than the screen size. On a small-width screen, message box text may be unreadable.
