In a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 and Lotus Notes coexisting
environment, the directory information is synchronized between Exchange Server 2003
and Lotus Notes. A Lotus Notes user is synchronized as an Active Directory contact that can be
checked by Exchange Server 2003 users who use the global address list (GAL). However, a
Lotus Notes user's e-mail address may contain one or more 8-bit ASCII characters, such as a "," an
"," or an "." When the e-mail address contains such characters, Exchange Server 2003 users cannot resolve the Lotus Notes user's address to an
Active Directory contact. Therefore, Exchange Server 2003 users cannot reply to these e-mail messages.
For example, assume that a Lotus Notes user's e-mail address is "dssel Khler." When that user
sends an e-mail message to Exchange Server 2003 users, the Exchange Server 2003 users find that the Lotus Notes sender's
address is resolved to "dussel=3000Kohler." Additionally, if you check this
Lotus Notes user in the Active Directory directory service, the user's address is displayed as "d=00FCssel=3000K=00F6hler."
