Symptom

If you install Windows 2008 from a WDS server or over the network using PXE, the WINPE installation wizard does not update with an iscsi target disk list when you manually load a network driver after WINPE has booted. The user can ping the iscsi boot target device after the driver loads, but the UI does not update. This is the case both with the "load driver" option in the UI and with drvload.exe. This is also the case when you upgrade inbox drivers with a newer version. The inbox drivers connect and show the target LUNs in the UI, but after loading the new driver, the UI no longer shows the target though network access is still present.

Resolution

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:

1. If the NIC / iSCSI HBA has in-box drivers, complete Setup using those drivers then update them following the installation.

2. Inject the updated drivers into the WIM images used to deploy Server 2008.
