The Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista Failover Cluster Validation process fails, and you receive an error message when the "System cryptography: Use FIPS compliant algorithms for encryption, hashing and signing" policy is enabled

The following policy is enabled on a Windows Server 2008-based computer or on a Windows Vista SP1-based computer: When you open the Failover Cluster Management window on this computer to perform the "Validate a Configuration" task, the validation process fails. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

This problem occurs because Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista Failover Cluster Validation uses a non-FIPS compliant algorithm. Therefore, the validation fails after the "System cryptography: Use FIPS compliant algorithms for encryption, hashing and signing" policy is enabled.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Apply hotfix 960334 on all computers that have the Failover Cluster Management window installed.
