You have Windows Media Services�2008 installed�on Windows Server 2008.�You start� the "Reliability and Performance Monitor"� by clicking on the icon at the bottom which says "View Performance Counters". �

You get errror 0x80070005 when you close the "Reliability and Performance Monitor" window.

Error Description: The account that you are using to run Windows Media Services requires access to the directory or file. Verify that the Network Services Account has permission to access the directory or file.

Cause

You do not have the write�permission on %systemroot%\System32\windows media\server\Admin\mmc\counters.xml file.� Typically this is in the C:\Windows\System32\windows media\server\Admin\mmc folder.

Resolution



In order to fix the issue, follow the steps below.

1. Go to the folder C:\windows\System32\windows media\server\Admin\mmc
2. Right-click on counters.xml and choose "Properties".
3. Go to "Security" Tab.
4. Click on "Advanced" button.
5. Change the owner of the file to the local machine Administrators group
6. Give the local Administrators group the full control to the file "counters.xml".
