Lots of paged pool memory is consumed when you click the Previous Versions tab after you create some snapshots of a volume on a Windows Server 2008 or a Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1)-based computer

On a Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1)-based computer, you create some snapshots of a volume on the computer. You open the Properties dialog box of a shared folder on this volume, and then you click the Previous Versions tab. When you do this, lots of paged pool memory is suddenly consumed. This may cause a severe lack of paged pool memory on this volume.

Note Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP-based computers that have hotfix 903234 installed do not encounter this problem.

This problem occurs because all snapshots are mounted in Windows Server 2008 or in Windows Vista SP1 when you click the Previous Versions tab.

Note Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP systems that have hotfix 903234 installed optimize this process and do not mount all snapshots.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 file information notes

These files and their associated .cat (security catalog) files are critical to maintaining the state of the updated component. The .cat files are signed with a Microsoft digital signature.
