Some Citrix commands do not work correctly in Citrix XenApp 5.0 for Windows Server 2008

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

In Citrix XenApp 5.0 for Windows Server 2008, you may find the following Citrix commands do not work correctly:
  • query server
  • query farm
  • query citr!x
When you run these commands, you receive the following error message:
Invalid parameter(s)
However, these commands work correctly in Citrix Presentation Server for Windows Server 2003.

Note This problem also occurs in Windows Vista Service Pack 1.

Cause

This problem occurs because of a design change in Windows Server 2008 and in Windows Vista SP1. The Citrix application installer tries to modify the values of some registry subkey entries. However, Windows Resource Protection (WRP) provides enhanced protection for these registry subkey entries, and only the TrustedInstaller group can modify the entries.
