The Inetinfo.exe process crashes in the MSExchange.UceContentFilter.dll module on a computer that is running an Exchange Server 2003 server and that has Intelligent Message Filter (IMF) enabled

Symptoms

The Inetinfo.exe process crashes on a computer that is running a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 server and that has Intelligent Message Filter (IMF) enabled. When this problem occurs, the following error is logged in the Application log:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application Error
Event Category: (100)
Event ID: 1000
Description:
Faulting application inetinfo.exe, version <version number>, faulting module MSExchange.UceContentFilter.dll, version <version number>, fault address <address>.

Cause

This problem occurs because the Custom Weight List (CWL) file was modified and reloaded on the Exchange server.

Note The CWL is an XML file that contains several words or phrases. These words or phrases can trigger the change of the final spam confidence level (SCL) that is assigned by the IMF. The CWL file name is "MSExchange.UceContentFilter.xml," and this file can be found in the following location:
<Drive>:\Program Files\Exchsvr\Bin\MSCFV2\<Version>

Resolution

Hotfix information


The followinghotfix for Intelligent Message Filter resolve the problem that is described in the "Symptoms" section. This hotifix can also be downloaded through Microsoft Update.

Note The regular IMF update functionality can be enabled on Exchange 2003 SP2 servers that have IMF enabled. To enable this functionality on the server, create a new ContentFilterState registry entry, and then set the DWORD value to "1" under the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange

Prerequisites


Because of file dependencies, this hotfix requires Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) to be installed on the server.
