Citrix ICA clients are not disconnected from a Windows Server 2008 terminal server as expected when the grace period has expired and a terminal license server is not configured

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

When users connect to a Windows Server 2008-based terminal server by using Citrix clients, users receive the following error message:
Closing the Citrix ICA client window will disconnect you from the Citrix XenApp server. Are you sure you want to close and disconnect?"

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • The terminal server has Citrix XenApp 5.0 installed.
  • The grace period for this terminal server has expired.
  • A terminal license server is not configured for this terminal server.
If the users click OK, their connections are not disconnected. Users can still connect to the Windows Server 2008 terminal servers by using Citrix clients. However, you expect that connections are disconnected after you click OK.

Note This problem does not occur with RDP clients.

Cause

This problem occurs because a licensing error in Windows 2008 Terminal Services is exposed when you use Citrix XenApp 5.0.
