Action

Consider the following scenario.� In Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, you upgrade the inbox�MegaRAID driver,�which supports legacy line-based interrupts, to a third-party MegaRAID driver that supports MSI-X interrupts.

Result

This installation of the third-party driver will fail, and the MegaRAID card will be put into a D3 device power state.� You will lose access to any devices attached to the MegaRAID controller.

Cause



The Storport driver does not have a mechanism to allow it to switch from legacy line-based hardware interrupts to MSI-X interrupts.

Resolution

You must first update to the latest�third-party legacy line-based driver, then update to�the latest third-party MSI-X version of the driver.�
