Consider the following scenario. You downgrade the firmware of a device that supports MSI-X interrupts to firmware that only supports Legacy Line-based hardware interrupts.
Windowscannotfall back to Legacy Line-basedinterrupts. Because of this, the device whose firmware has been downgraded to Legacy Line-based interrupts will no longer function. As a result, you will no longer be able to access devices attached to the affected device. For example, you will no longer be able to access disks attached to a RAID controller whose firmware has been downgraded to only support Legacy Line-based interrupts.
The Storport driver does not have a mechanism to allow it to fall back from MSI-X interrupts to Legacy Line-based hardware interrupts.
This behavior is by design. Once a device that supports MSI-X interrupts has been installed, it cannot be downgraded to only support Legacy Line-based interrupts.
