You encounter problems when you manipulate logical unit numbers on a Windows Server 2008-based or Windows Vista-based computer

On a storage device that is used by a Windows Server 2008-based or by a Windows Vista-based computer, you encounter problems when you manipulate logical unit numbers in the following scenarios:

Scenario 1

You run the Virtual Disk Service (VDS) Hardware Compatibility Test (HCT) 2.64 that is included with the Windows Logo Kit on the computer. During this test, a logical unit number (LUN) on the storage device is masked and then unmasked. In this scenario, the test fails, and the following error is returned:

Scenario 2

You use the Storage Manager for SANs (SMFS) wizard to create, unmask, and format a LUN in a single operation. When you do this, you receive the following error message:

Hotfix information

Important Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 hotfixes are included in the same packages. However, only one of these products may be listed on the �Hotfix Request� page. File information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. These files and their associated .cat (security catalog) files are critical to maintaining the state of the updated component. The .cat files are signed with a Microsoft digital signature. The attributes of these security files are not listed.
