Error message when you access the shared resources in a cooperation network over a VPN connection from a Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008-based client computer: "0x80004005" or "0x80070035"

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

On a Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008-based client computer, you switch a network connection from one network adapter to another network adapter or you reconnect a network connection. Then, you establish a virtual private network (VPN) connection to the cooperation network. In this case, you cannot access any shared resources on the servers in the cooperation network by using Distributed File System (DFS) share or by accessing the shared resources directly.

If you access the shared resources by using DFS share, you may receive the following error message:
Network Error
Windows cannot access \\DomainName\DFSShare
Error code: 0x80004005
Unspecified error
If you access the shared resources directly, you may receive the following error message:
Network Error
Windows cannot access \\ShareServer\Share
Error code: 0x80070035
The network path was not found.
In some cases, you may be able to temporarily access the shared resources.
