Result

You can hear the recipient of the phone call, but they cannot hear you.

Cause

Dialer.exe is a program that ships as part of Windows Vista.  It allows users to dial calls via their computer.  However, for voice calls, a separate program is required to handle the voice portion of the call, and the modem being used to dial the call must support both voice and data communication.

Resolution

When making a voice call, once the phone number has been dialed, the user should use a separate program to handle the voice portion of the call.

If the user simply wants to use dialer.exe to dial their phone line, they must enter a number to dial in dialer.exe, dial the number, then pick up a handset that is connected to the same phone line as the modem to speak with the recipient of the call.
