FIX: A Windows Embedded CE 6.0-based device does not receive a reply that contains DNS recursive name server information and domain search list information from a stateless DHCPv6 server

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • An IP version 6 (IPv6) network uses one of following kinds of stateless DHCP for IPv6 (DHCPv6) servers:
    • A Windows Server 2008-based computer
    • Dibbler
  • The stateless DHCPv6 server is configured to provide the DNS Recursive Name Server option (23) and the Domain Search List option (24).
  • You connect a Windows Embedded CE 6.0-based device to the IPv6 network.

In this scenario, the Windows Embedded CE 6.0-based device does not receive a reply that contains DNS recursive name server information and domain search list information from the stateless DHCPv6 server. You expect the Windows Embedded CE 6.0-based device to receive a reply that contains DNS recursive name server information and domain search list information from the stateless DHCPv6 server.

Additionally, if you connect a non-x86 Windows Embedded CE 6.0-based device to Dibbler, you may receive the following error message:
17095 PID:400002 TID:5360002 Exception 'Data Abort' (4): Thread-Id=05360002(pth=85187504), Proc-Id=00400002(pprc=82184308) 'NK.EXE', VM-active=05d30002(pprc=851acb74) 'explorer.exe' 17095 PID:400002 TID:5360002 PC=c0928290(dhcpv6l.dll+0x00008290) RA=c0928314(dhcpv6l.dll+0x00008314) SP=d1c6fdf4, BVA=00000000

Cause

This problem occurs because the DHCPv6 Information Request packet that the Windows Embedded CE 6.0-based device sends does not contain a Client Identifier and a Vendor Class Identifier.
