After you apply this hotfix, a new input and output control (IOCTL), IOCTL_DISK_RESET_SNAPSHOT_INFO, is available to convert new LUNs that are made from VSS transportable shadow copies. You can use the IOCTL against the new LUNs before you bring them online. Details about IOCTL_DISK_RESET_SNAPSHOT_INFO IOCTL are documented on the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) Web site.
Note One side effect of using this IOCTL is that Disk Management tools will now report an additional partition on GPT disks of the type "UNKNOWN." This 256KB partition is created by using the IOCTL and is the Snapshot partition that is used in the restore process. The partition is expected and can be ignored by system administrators.
