When you open an .rtf file that contains a MergeField field in a paragraph, indents that are added to the paragraph are not displayed in Windows Server 2003 and in Windows XP Professional x64 edition

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • On a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP Professional x64 edition, you create a document in Microsoft Office Word 2003 or in a later version of Word.
  • You add a MergeField field to merge the document by using some data.
  • You add some indents to the paragraph that contains the MergeField field.
  • You save the document as an .rtf file.
  • You create an application that uses the RichEdit control (Riched20.dll).

Note One example of an application that uses the RichEdit control is WordPad.
  • You use the application to open the .rtf file.
In this scenario, the paragraph is displayed as if no indent was added. Additionally, if you print the document, the indents are not displayed in the printed document.
