You cannot disable the "No end date" option for appointments, meeting requests, tasks, or task requests in Outlook 2007

Problem description

You create a new recurring appointment, meeting request, task, or task request in Microsoft Office Outlook 2007. When you set the range of recurrence, the No end date option is always available. You cannot disable the No end date option for appointments, meeting requests, tasks, or task requests.

Note To set the range of recurrence, click Recurrence in the Options group for the appointment, meeting request, task, or task request.

Steps to resolve this problem

To fix this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Apply the hotfix.

    How to obtain the hotfix

    This issue is fixed in the Outlook 2007 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package that is dated September 24, 2008. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

  2. Enable the hotfix.

    To automatically enable the hotfix, go to the "Fix it for me" section. To enable the hotfix yourself, go to the "Let me fix it myself" section.

    Fix it for me

    To enable the hotfix automatically, click the
    Fix itbutton or link. Click
    Runin the
    File Downloaddialog box, and then follow the steps in the Fix it wizard.



    Note this wizard may be in English only; however, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows.

    Note If you are not on the computer that has the problem, you can save the automatic fix to a flash drive or to a CD, and then you can run it on the computer that has the problem.

    To disable the No end date option for recurring appointments, meeting requests, tasks, or task requests after you apply this hotfix, follow these steps:
    1. Exit Outlook 2007.
    2. Start Registry Editor.
      • In Windows Vista, click Startthe Start button , type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

        User Account Control permission If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or provide confirmation.
      • In Windows XP, click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click
        OK.
    3. Locate and then click to select the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Preferences
      If you use policies, select the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Preferences
      Note Both these registry keys perform the same function.
    4. After you select the key that is specified in step 3, point to New on the Edit menu, and then click DWORD Value.
    5. Type DisableRecurNoEnd, and then press ENTER.
    6. Right-click DisableRecurNoEnd, and then click Modify.
    7. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
    8. On the File menu, click Exit to exit Registry Editor.

More Information

After you apply this hotfix and after you disable the No end date option in Outlook 2007, the No end date option functions as follows:
  • Existing recurring appointments, meeting requests, tasks, or task requests function as before. However, the No end date option is unavailable.
  • If you change the recurring appointment, meeting request, task, or task request to end after several occurrences or to end by a specific date, you cannot set the No end date option.
