Traditionally, you cannot uninstall Microsoft Office service packs without completely uninstalling the Microsoft Office products. The 2007 Microsoft Office suite Service Pack 2 (SP2) is the first service pack to support uninstalling the updates for the 2007 Office desktop products. The Microsoft Service Pack Uninstall Tool for the 2007 Microsoft Office suite (Oarpman.exe) lets you uninstall all the updates for the 2007 Office desktop products that are included in the 2007 Office suite SP2 and SP3.

How to obtain this tool

The Microsoft Service Pack Uninstall Tool for the 2007 Microsoft Office suite is available on the Microsoft Download Center. To obtain this tool, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

  • For more information about this tool, see the Readme.txt file that is included in the download.
  • You must use a subfolder to expand the tool. For example, use the c:\subdir folder. You cannot expand the tool into the root directory of the drive. For example, you cannot expand the tool into the c:\ directory.

You can use this tool to streamline the removal of all the SP2 or SP3 client updates. However, you may want to uninstall the SP2 or SP3 client updates individually. To do this, use the following command:
msiexec /i {MSI GUID} MSIPATCHREMOVE={Patch GUID} /l*vx Path of the log file

Known issues and behavior changes

  • All shared files are unexpectedly reverted to RTM instead of SP1 after you uninstall the 2007 Office suite SP2. This issue occurs only if you have a both of RTM and SP1 on a computer, then you install and uninstall SP2 later.



    Note If all Office products are RTM, this issue does not occur. If all Office products are SP1, this issue does not occur. To work around this issue, run the repair of SP1. BUG #: 841342 (Office12)
  • If you run Oarpman.exe on a Windows Vista-based or Windows Server 2008-based computer where some applications are being used, Windows Restart Manager closes the applications unexpectedly. BUG #: 841159 (Office12)
