Symptoms

When you try to use the PNRP Machine Name Publication service on a Windows Server 2008-based computer, you receive an error message that resembles the following:
Element not found.

Cause

This problem occurs when you use the set machine name="0.name" publish=start autopublish=enable command at the Netsh p2p pnrp> prompt.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, run the netsh command as usual. Then, configure the PNRP Machine Name Publication Service manually so that the service starts automatically. To configure the PNRP Machine Name Publication Service to start automatically, run the following commands at an elevated command prompt:
sc config pnrpautoreg start= auto
net start pnrpautoreg
