The Terminal Services Configuration tool crashes when you use keyboard shortcuts to open the Properties dialog box on a Windows Server 2008-based computer

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You are running a Windows Server 2008-based computer.
  • In the Terminal Services Configuration tool, you use keyboard shortcuts to open the Properties dialog box to select protocols that are displayed there.
In this scenario, the tool crashes.

Cause

This problem occurs because of a race condition that is caused by the late binding of some Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) objects when you use keyboard shortcuts.

Workaround

To work around this problem, use the TAB key to select the protocol that you want in the Terminal Services Configuration tool, and then press ENTER.

Steps to reproduce the problem

  1. Click Start
    , type tsconfig.msc in the Start Search box, right-click tsconfig.msc in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator.

    If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
  2. Right-click RDP-tcp.
  3. Use the DOWN ARROW key to select Properties, and then press ENTER.

    The Terminal Services Configuration tool crashes.
