The characters in an error dialog box are unreadable when you filter and group data by using the Windows System Resource Manager accounting features in Windows Server 2008

Consider the following scenario:

• You use the Windows System Resource Manager (WSRM) accounting feature to track resource usage per user in Windows Server 2008.
• You use the View Filter feature to configure filter and group items.

In this scenario, the characters in an error dialog box that is displayed in the WSRM window are unreadable. The filtered display or the grouped display does not appear.

Note The problem does not occur if only the filter item or the group item is configured.

This problem occurs because the WHERE clause and the GROUPBY clause in query formation are not collated correctly when you use them together.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

You must have the Windows System Resource Manager feature installed to apply this hotfix. Service Pack 1 is integrated into Windows Server 2008.

File information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.

Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 file information notes

• The .manifest files and the .mum files that are installed in each environment are listed separately in the "Additional file information for Windows Server 2008 and for Windows Vista" section. These files and their associated .cat (security catalog) files are critical to maintaining the state of the updated component. The .cat files are signed with a Microsoft digital signature. The attributes of these security files are not listed.
