A deadlock situation occurs in Windows Management Instrumentation Service (WMI) on a Windows Server 2008-based or Windows Vista SP1-based computer

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • On a Windows Server 2008-based or Windows Vista SP1-based computer, you execute a Windows Management Instrumentation Service (WMI) query and begin enumerating through the result set.
  • Before you finish enumerating through all objects in the result set, you stop the enumerating action and dispose of the ManagementObjectCollection WMI.
In this scenario, the WMI service may enter into a deadlock situation and stops working. Any applications calling WMI functions may also stop working because of this issue.

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.
