You cannot investigate a Stop error that occurs on an x64-based version of Windows Server 2008

Symptoms

On a computer that has an x64-based version of Windows Server 2008 installed, a Stop error occurs. However, you cannot investigate the Stop error.

This problem occurs because the Microsoft Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) driver does not generate the System Event Log (SEL) message in the baseboard management controller (BMC). Therefore, the Stop error is not logged in the operating system.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
