When you establish a Terminal Services session that requires smart card authentication to log on to a Windows Server 2008-based terminal server, the Terminal Services session stops responding

Consider the following scenario:

• You establish a Terminal Services session to a Windows Server 2008-based terminal server.
• The Terminal Services session requires smart card authentication for the client to log on to the terminal server.

In this scenario, the Terminal Services session stops responding during the "waiting for user profile service" process. To continue, the terminal server must be restarted.

This issue occurs because of a deadlock condition in the Scksp.dll module.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
