You may not receive notifications for new messages after you publish an internal Exchange Server 2007 by using the Exchange remote procedure call (RPC) server publishing rule

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  1. On a computer that is running Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2006, you install the update that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 925403. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
    925403 Update is available that supports publishing Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 behind Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2006
  2. You publish an internal Exchange Server 2007-based server by using the Exchange remote procedure call (RPC) server publishing rule.
In this scenario, you can connect to the internal Exchange Server 2007-baed server through ISA by using Outlook. However, you will not receive notifications for new messages.

Cause

This issue occurs because the RPC Interface universally unique identifier (UUID) for the notification RPC interface is missing in the properties of the Exchange RPC Server protocol.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for ISA Server 2006. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Workaround

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. In the ISA Server Management console, click the Firewall Policy node.
  2. On the Toolbox tab, click Protocols.
  3. Expand Mail, and then double-click Exchange RPC Server.
  4. On the Interfaces tab, click Add.
  5. In the Add/Edit Interfaces dialog box, do the following:
    1. In the UUID text box, type {5261574a-4572-206e-b268-6b199213b4e4}.
    2. In the Name text box, specify a name for the interface.
    3. In the Publishing Port list, leave the default setting Publish a Dynamically Assigned Port.
  6. Apply the changes.
