FIX: A Host Integration Server-based server may intermittently log Event 60 and Event 703 warnings when a mainframe application tries to invoke a non-queued APPC or CPI-C application that is running on a Host Integration Server client or server system

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario. A mainframe application is used to invoke an APPC or CPI-C application on a Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004-based server or on a Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004 client system. The APPC or CPI-C application is defined as a non-queued transaction program (TP).

In this scenario, the Host Integration Server 2004-based server may intermittently log Event 60 and Event 703 warnings similar to the following warnings when an incoming request from the mainframe application is not processed before the Timeout for starting invokable TPs time-out expires:

Event ID: 60
Source: SNA Server
Description: Failed to invoke APPC TP TP Name, local LU = APPC LU Name , sense data = 84c0000
EXPLANATION An attempt to invoke the APPC TP shown has failed. The error will be reported to the invoking TP on the remote system with the following primary return code: AP_ALLOCATION_ERROR. The sense data shown is the secondary return code, which will be one of the following hexadecimal values:
X'084B6031' AP_TRANS_PGM_NOT_AVAIL_RETRY
X'084C0000' AP_TRANS_PGM_NOT_AVAIL_NO_RETRY
X'10086021' AP_TP_NAME_NOT_RECOGNIZED
X'10086031' AP_PIP_NOT_ALLOWED
X'10086032' AP_PIP_NOT_SPECIFIED_CORRECTLY
X'10086034' AP_CONVERSATION_TYPE_MISMATCH
X'10086041' AP_SYNC_LEVEL_NOT_SUPPORTED X'080F6051' AP_SECURITY_NOT_VALID

Event ID: 703
Source: SNA Base Service
Description: Failed to invoke APPC Transaction Program (TP) TP Name, error code = 1036. The request to invoke the TP was sent by Host Integration Server <servername>.

Note The problem also occurs when you use Microsoft Host Integration Server 2006.

Cause

This problem occurs because the Host Integration Server-based server's dynamic access module (DMOD) client/server interface does not review the time that the incoming request from the IBM mainframe was received when it determines which incoming request to process. Therefore, incoming requests that were received later may be processed before incoming requests that were received at an earlier time. This may cause some incoming requests to time out before a TP that can process the request can be invoked.
