You may receive an error message on a computer that is running a 32-bit edition of Windows Server 2008 when you try to connect to a printer that is installed on a computer that is running a 64-bit edition of Windows Server 2008

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario. On a computer that is running a 64-bit edition of Windows Server 2008, you have a printer installed. The printer uses a color profile. You try to connect to the printer from a computer that is running a 32-bit edition of Windows Server 2008. To do this, you use the "Point and Print" feature. In this scenario, you may receive the following error message:
Windows cannot connect to the printer. Access is denied.

Cause

This issue may occur if the Image Color Matching (ICM) file that contains the color profile for the printer driver is missing or is outdated. If the user who connects to the print server does not have administrator rights and permissions, the user cannot copy or replace the ICM file on the print server.

Workaround

Note You must have administrator rights and permissions to follow these steps.

To work around this issue, follow these steps:
1.On the computer that is running the 32-bit edition of Windows Server 2008, run the Add Printer wizard at an elevated command prompt. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
b. To start the Add Printer wizard, type the following command at the command prompt, and then press ENTER:
rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /il
c. In the Add Printer wizard, click Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer under Choose a local or network printer.
d. Follow the steps in the Add Printer wizard to install the network printer.
e. After you complete the installation of the network printer, type exit at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.
2. Copy the ICM file that contains the color profile for the printer driver from the following folder on the print server to the same folder on the print client:
system_drive\system32\spool\drivers\color
3.Try to connect to the network printer.
