Symptoms

UI Automation (UIA) binaries, such as UI Spy or MitaSpy, do not work correctly to view the document content of a Web page that is displayed in Windows Internet Explorer 7 on a computer that is running Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.

Resolution

Developers can avoid this problem by calling UIA binaries from single-threaded apartment (STA) threads. To do this, use one of the following methods in the code that uses UIA binaries:
  • Use the [STAThread] thread attribute to mark the Main() method.
  • Set the newly created threads to use STA.
