Error message when you try to install QuickTime together with iTunes in Expression Media 2: "The iTunes installer is intended for 32-bit versions of Windows"


Symptoms

In Microsoft Expression Media 2, you use a link to an Apple Web site to try to install Apple QuickTime together with Apple iTunes. When you do this, you may receive the following error message:
The iTunes installer is intended for 32-bit versions of Windows. It is highly recommended that you download and install the 64-bit iTunes installer instead. Continue with install?
This issue occurs if you are running a 64-bit operating system.

Cause

This issue occurs because the option to install QuickTime together with iTunes does not support the 64-bit version of the operating system. However, the option to install only QuickTime supports 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the operating system.

Workaround

To work around this issue, visit the following Microsoft Web site to install QuickTime: Note When you do this, select the option to install only QuickTime.

If you want, you can also install iTunes for a 64-bit version of Windows from the iTunes download site.
