The system stops responding during the logoff, shutdown, or restart process on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP and that has the Japanese IME installed

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP.
  • The computer has the Japanese Input Method Editor (IME) installed.
  • You log off, shut down, or restart the computer.
In this scenario, the system stops responding (hangs) during the logoff, shutdown, or restart process.

Cause

The issue occurs because of a problem in a routine in the DllMain function. (This function is part of the Imjpcd.dic module.) This problem causes a deadlock in the Winlogon.exe process.

Resolution

Hotfix information for Windows Server 2003

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
