Symptoms

The Inetinfo.exe process crashes on a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 front-end server in certain configurations. This occurs when the Exchange Server 2003 front-end server receives certain command sequences from IMAP clients.

When this problem occurs, the following event is logged in the System log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7031
Description:
The IIS Admin Service service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this x time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 1 milliseconds: Run the configured recovery program.

Additionally, the following event is logged in the Application log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Microsoft Exchange Server
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Description:
Faulting application inetinfo.exe, version <version>, stamp 45d69692, faulting module imap4fe.dll, version <version>, stamp 430e7343, debug? 0, fault address <address>.

Resolution

Hotfix information

After you apply this hotfix, you must restart the IIS Admin Service and all the dependent services.
