The Internet Explorer Maintenance Group Policy settings for the Content Advisor do not work on client computers that have Internet Explorer 7 installed

Symptoms

In an Active Directory domain environment, you configure the Internet Explorer Maintenance Group Policy settings so that the Content Advisor restrictions are rolled out to the domain. You do this to manage Web sites and to prevent users from viewing certain Internet content.

However, on a client computer that has Windows Internet Explorer 7 installed, these Group Policy settings do not work. Even if these Group Policy settings have been downloaded to the client computer, the Content Advisor is not enabled, and it is not configured in compliance with the Group Policy settings.

Note This problem does not occur on a client computer that has Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 installed.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

To configure the Internet Explorer Maintenance Group Policy settings, follow these steps:
  1. Open the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in, right-click the organizational unit to which you want to apply the Internet Explorer Maintenance Group Policy settings, and then click Properties.
  2. On the Group Policy tab, click Add, and then click Edit to open the Group Policy Object Editor.
  3. In the Group Policy Object Editor, expand User Configuration, expand Windows Settings, expand Internet Explorer Maintenance, and then configure the Internet Explorer Maintenance Group Policy settings.
