Scheduled shadow copy creation tasks do not run on a clustered Windows Server 2008 file server after a failover occurs

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You configure a file share resource in a Windows Server 2008 cluster.
  • You schedule a shadow copy creation task on one node for the file share resource.
  • The file share resource fails over to another node.
In this scenario, shadow copies are not created as scheduled.

Note This problem occurs only in clustered file servers that are running Windows Server 2008 and that use shadow copies for shared folders.

Cause

This problem occurs because the shadow copy creation task may be initialized to use a local volume GUID instead of a cluster-shared volume GUID.
