Error message when you try to create separate counting journals by using different warehouses for the same item in Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0: "Item is locked for updates in warehouse [Warehouse_Name]"

Symptoms

When you try to create separate counting journals by using different warehouses for the same item in Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0, you receive the following error message:
Item is locked for updates in warehouse Warehouse_Name
The item is being counted.
This problem occurs even if the Lock items during count check box is not selected in the Inventory parameters dialog box.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Delete the journal line that causes the problem, and then close the Journal lines dialog box.

  2. Create warehouse items for the item for which you want to create the counting journals. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Click Inventory management, and then click Items.
    2. Click the item for which you want to create the counting journals, click Setup, and then click Warehouse items.
    3. In the Warehouse items dialog box, create a new line for each warehouse that you want to use to create the counting journals.

  3. Create separate counting journals by using different warehouses for the same item.

Steps to reproduce the problem

  1. Click Inventory management, expand Setup, and then click Parameters.
  2. In the Inventory parameters dialog box, click the General tab, and then click to clear the Lock items during count check box.
  3. Click Inventory management, expand Journals, expand Item counting, and then click Counting.
  4. Click Create new.
  5. Click to select the Warehouse check box, and then click OK.
  6. Click Lines.
  7. In the Journal lines dialog box, create a new line.
  8. In the Item number list, click an item that has an inventory in multiple warehouses.
  9. In the Warehouse list, click a warehouse in which you want to count the inventory.

  10. Close the Journal lines dialog box.

  11. Repeat steps 3 through 10.



    Note When you repeat step 9, you have to click another warehouse in the Warehouse list.
