A memory leak may occur when an application uses the Refresh method of the IWbemRefresher interface on a Windows Vista-based computer or on a Windows Server 2008-based computer

Symptoms

On a Windows Vista-based computer or on a Windows Server 2008-based computer, when you run an application that uses the Refresh method of the IWbemRefresher interface, a memory leak may occur.

After the application runs for several days, the computer may become unresponsive. In this case, you have to restart the computer.

Additionally, if you use system performance monitor tool (Perfmon.exe) to monitor the Private Bytes counter of the application, you may notice that the private bytes increase quickly.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
