Error message when you try to duplicate a certificate template in the certificate template store: "The Computer certificate template could not be duplicated The system cannot find the file specified"

Symptoms

On a computer that is running Windows Server 2003, when you try to duplicate a certificate template in the certificate template store, you may receive the following error message:
"The Computer certificate template could not be duplicated. The system cannot find the file specified."

Cause

This issue occurs when the object identifier (also known as OID) that is under the following node is deleted:
CN=Configuration,CN=Services,CN=Public Key Service

Resolution

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type adsiedit.msc, and then click OK.
  2. Expand Configuration, expand CN=Configuration,DC= Domain Component ,DC= Domain Component, and then expand CN=Services.
  3. Right-click CN=Public Key Services, point to New, and then click Object.
  4. Click msPKI-Enterprise-Oid, click Next, type OID, click Next, and then click Finish.
