Stop error message after you enable the Disk Integrity Checking feature of Driver Verifier in a Windows Server 2003 cluster environment: "Stop error code 0x000000C4 (DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION)"

Symptoms

After you enable the Disk Integrity Checking feature of Driver Verifier in a Windows Server 2003 cluster environment, Driver Verifier may incorrectly report a violation. In this situation, you receive the following Stop error message, and then the node restarts unexpectedly:
Stop 0x000000C4 (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION
Note Parameter1 in this error message may be 0x000000A0 or 0x000000A1. In either case, the error message indicates that a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) error was detected on a sector or on a hard disk.

Cause

The Disk Integrity Checking feature of Driver Verifier is not designed for server clusters.

To work around this problem, do not enable the Disk Integrity Checking feature of Driver Verifier in a Windows Server 2003 cluster.

More Information

To configure the Disk Integrity Checking feature, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type verifier, and then click OK.
  2. Click Create custom settings (for code developers), and then click Next.
  3. To enable the Disk Integrity Checking feature, click to select the Disk integrity checking check box under Enable predefined settings. To disable the Disk Integrity Checking feature, click to clear the Disk integrity checking check box.
