Distributed File System Replication may not replicate a folder on a Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer if the folder was previously a member of a replication group that was removed

Symptoms

You use Distributed File System Replication (DFSR) to replicate files between two Windows Server 2003 R2-based computers. Additionally, you create a replication group on a folder that contains subfolders. In this situation, the parent folder replicates successfully. However, some subfolders may not replicate. This problem occurs if the subfolders were previously members of another replication group that was removed.

Cause

The DFSR service determines whether the root folder of the new replication group is a tombstoned object when the new replication group is initialized. However, the DFSR service does not determine whether any subfolders are tombstoned objects. If a subfolder was previously a member of a replication group on the same volume, this subfolder will not replicate.
