The drop-down list is blank or does not display all the site names when you install Business Portal for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 or Business Portal for Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0

INTRODUCTION

When you install Business Portal for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 or Business Portal for Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0, the drop-down list is either blank or does not display all the site names when you select one of the following options:
  • Install to an Existing Web Application and Site Collection
  • Create a new Web Application and Site Collection

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Make sure that the user who is logged on to the computer when you install Business Portal is a Site Collection Administrator in Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) or in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. On the server that is running SharePoint, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration.
    2. Click Application Management, and then click Site Collection Administrators under SharePoint Site Management.
    3. In the Site Collection list, click the URL of the Web application to which you installed Business Portal.
    4. When you install Business Portal, make sure that you are logged on as the user who is listed in either the Primary Site Collection Administrator or the Secondary Site Collection Administrator box.

      Note Only a Primary Site Collection Administrator is required for the site collection.
  2. Make sure that the name of the computer that will be running Business Portal differs from the following names:
    • BusinessPortal
    • BP
    To check the name of the computer, follow these steps:
    1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
    2. Click the Computer Name tab.
  3. Make sure that when you create the site collection for the Web application you do not change the Web site address. When you create the site collection, there is a Web Site Address field. By default, it is set as follows:
    http://nameofthecomputer/
    Keep the default setting.

    Note Do not choose http://nameofthecomputer/sites or type any other URL.
  4. If a Web application to which Business Portal will be installed has been created already, verify that the name of the Internet Information Services (IIS) site matches the name of the Web application in SharePoint. To do this, follow these steps on the Web server:
    1. Click Start, point to Control Panel, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
    2. Expand the name of the server that is running IIS, expand Web Sites, point to New, and then click Web site. Note the name of the Business Portal site. For example, the name may be BusinessPortal - 80.
    3. Click Start, point to Control Panel, point to Administrative Tools, and then click SharePoint Central Administration.
    4. Click the Application Management tab, and then view the Web Application list. Verify that a Web application that matches the name of the IIS site from step 4b exists. If a Web application that matches the name of the IIS site from step 4b does not exist, follow one of these steps:
      • Change the name of the IIS site to match the appropriate Web application.
      • Create a new SharePoint Web application.
  5. Make sure that a Secured Sockets Layer (SSL) Certificate is not applied to the IIS site or to the SharePoint Web application. To do this, follow these steps on the Web server:
    1. Click Start, point to Control Panel, point to Administrative Tools, and then click SharePoint Central Administration.
    2. Click the Application Management tab, and then view the Web Application list.
    3. Verify that the URL for the Business Portal site starts only with the "http://" characters and not with the "https://" characters.If the URL does begin with the "https://" characters, do either of the following:
      • Create a new Web application that does not have SSL applied to it, and that can be used for the Business Portal installation.
      • Remove SSL from the Web application and from the IIS site.


      6. In Windows Server 2008, turn off the UAC. To do this, follow these steps: 
    4. . Click Start , and then click Control Panel . 
    5.  b. Click User Accounts , and then click User Accounts again. 
    6. c. Click Change User Account Control settings .
    7. d Change the setting to Never Notify
    8. . Click OK .
    9. f When you are prompted, restart the computer. 

    Note: UAC can be turned on after the Business Portal installation is completed
