More information

Simple TCP/IP Service supports the following TCP/IP services:
Character Generator
Daytime
Discard
Echo
Quote of the Day
These services are specified in Remote Procedure Calls (RPC) 862, 863, 864, 865, and 867. These services require that certain ports are open in Windows Firewall for the ports to be accessed.

However, these ports are not automatically opened when you install the optional Simple TCP/IP Service on a Windows Server 2008-based computer. You must manually open the ports. The ports that you must manually open in Windows Firewall are as follows:
Echo: 7 (TCP, UDP)
Discard: 9 (TCP, UDP)
Daytime: 13 (TCP, UDP)
Quote of the Day: 17 (TCP)
Character Generator: 19 (TCP, UDP)
