Symptoms

In Windows Deployment Services on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008, the Do not listen on port 67 check box may not stay selected.

Note The Do not listen on port 67 check box is in the Server Properties dialog box.

Cause

This behavior occurs when the DHCP Server service is not installed on the computer that is running Windows Server 2008.

Resolution

To resolve this behavior, install the DHCP Server service on the computer that is running Windows Server 2008.

Steps to reproduce the behavior

  1. Click Start, click Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then click Windows Deployment Services.
  2. Expand Servers, right-click the server that you want to examine, and then click Properties.
  3. In the Server Properties dialog box, click the DHCP tab.
  4. Click to select the Do not listen on port 67 check box, and then click Apply.
  5. Reopen the Server Properties dialog box, and then click the DHCP tab.
