A hotfix is available to add a new time zone in Argentina (GMT -3:00) for 2007 through 2008 in Windows XP and in Windows Server 2003

Introduction

The government of Argentina has announced a new time zone start date and end date for Argentina for the period of 2007 through 2008. The new time zone information is as follows:
  • Daylight saving time begins Sunday, December 30, 2007 at 00:00 A.M. local standard time (Fifth Sunday in December)
  • Daylight saving time ends Sunday, March 16, 2008 at 00:00 A.M. local daylight saving time (the third Sunday in March)
Computers that are running Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 will not correctly interpret the time that is related to the transition to daylight saving time. Hotfix 947279 addresses this time zone change. The hotfix that is mentioned in this article creates a new time zone for (GMT -03:00) Buenos Aires, Argentina. This time zone contains the DST settings for Argentina for 2007 through 2008. The hotfix also renames the (GMT -03:00) Buenos Aires, Argentina time zone to (GMT-03:00) Georgetown. Users in Argentina must manually change to the new (GMT -03:00) Buenos Aires time zone after the hotfix is installed.
