Workaround

To work around this problem, install a new Microsoft CRM 4.0 deployment by using the new license key, create a new organization, and then import the organization from the existing installation. To do this, follow these steps. After you follow these steps, you will be able to log on to the new organization and see all the data and customizations from the existing installation.

Note You can also follow these steps to downgrade a license key after you install Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0.
  1. Obtain the license key that you want to use. For more information about license keys, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
  2. Back up the OrganizationName_MSCRM database.
  3. Uninstall Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
    2. Locate the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server program, and then click Change/Remove.
    3. Click Uninstall.
  4. After Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 is uninstalled, delete the MSCRM_Config database on the server that is running Microsoft SQL Server.
  5. Restart the server that is running SQL Server.
  6. Install Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 by using the new license key that you obtained.

Note When you are prompted to enter the organization name, use a name that differs from the original organization name. You will import the old organization into the new installation. Therefore, you do not want to have the installation create an organization that has the same name.
  7. Install hotfix 950680. For more information about this hotfix, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

950680 The workflow rules can no longer run when you use the Deployment Manager Import Organization Wizard to import an organization in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0

  8. After the installation is complete, run the Deployment Manager process.
  9. Right-click Organization, and then click Import Organization.
  10. Click OK to delete the organization that you created in step 6.
  11. Complete the steps in the Import Organization Wizard, and then click the OrganizationName_MSCRM database that you backed up in step 2.
  12. Log on to the organization.
Notes
  • You must run the Configuration Wizard for the Microsoft Dynamics CRM E-mail Router to configure it for the new environment if you plan to use the same Microsoft Dynamics CRM E-mail Router.
  • You must install the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Data Connector for SQL Server Reporting Services to register the components with the new MSCRM_Config database.
  • You must run the Configuration Wizard for the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Client for Outlook to connect to the new Microsoft Dynamics CRM server.
  • You must reinstall the Data Migration Manager to point to the new Microsoft Dynamics CRM server.
