No events are displayed when you click the DHCP Server custom view in Event Viewer on a Windows Server 2008-based computer

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You are running a Windows Server 2008-based computer.
  • The computer has the DHCP Server role installed.
  • You click the DHCP Server custom view in Event Viewer.
In this scenario, no events are displayed in the DHCP Server pane.

Note To view the DHCP Server custom view, follow these steps:
  1. Start Event Viewer. To do this, click Start, click Run, type eventvwr, and then click OK.
  2. Expand Custom Views, expand Server Roles, and then click DHCP Server.

Workaround

To work around this issue, create a custom filter to filter the event log by using the DHCP-Server source entry. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Event Viewer. To do this, click Start, click Run, type eventvwr, and then click OK.
  2. Right-click Custom Views, and then click Create Custom View.
  3. In the Create Custom View dialog box, click the Filter tab.
  4. Click By source, and then click to select the DHCP-Server check box in the Event sources list.
  5. Click OK.
  6. In the Save Filter to Custom View dialog box, type the name that you want to use for the view, and then click OK.
When you click the custom view that you created, the DHCP server-related events appear in the details pane.
